Lina Medina de Jurado: The World's Youngest Mother - Fact or Fiction?
The youngest female to give birth ever is thought to be Lina Medina de Jurado, who was born in Ticrapo, Peru, in 1933. She gave birth to a boy named Gerardo on May 14, 1939, when she was just five years, seven months, and 21 days old. Gerardo was delivered via caesarean section and weighed 2.7 kilograms (6 pounds).
Medina's case was widely reported in the media at the time, and it remains a source of fascination and controversy to this day. Some have questioned whether she was actually as young as she claimed to be, but medical evidence supports the fact that she was indeed a child when she gave birth.
Gerardo grew up to be a healthy adult and died in 1979 at the age of 40. Medina never married and died in 2015 at the age of 82.
Lina Medina's case is a reminder of the incredible power and complexity of the human body. It also highlights the importance of access to healthcare and education for girls and women, as well as the need to protect the rights of children.
