Understanding Down Syndrome: Facts and Respectful Language
The term "down person" is not medically or scientifically recognized, and it is typically used in a derogatory manner. It is inappropriate and harmful to categorise individuals based on genetic conditions. Individuals with Down syndrome, also known as trisomy 21, have a specific chromosomal arrangement and may exhibit certain physical and developmental characteristics, but they are equally deserving of respect and recognition as individuals with inherent worth. Using offensive terminology creates stigma and perpetuates discrimination. It is important to foster inclusivity and understanding towards all individuals, regardless of any perceived differences or challenges they may face.Baby Health - Related Articles
