How to Use Hand Weights
Hand weights are a popular part of many workout routines because they provide an easy way to add muscle-toning resistance. The equipment is readily available at sports stores and retailers, and can be used at home or in a gym. Plenty of hand weight routines are available on DVD, or you can create your own. It's easy to make hand weights a regular part of your fitness routine.
Instructions
Warm up before using the hand weights. Even if you're hand weights are relatively light, stretch and prepare your muscles before you start to exercise.
Target specific areas in your hand weight routine. Follow a DVD program or prepare your own exercise plan with the help of a fitness trainer.
Take controlled breaths as you exercise. Inhale during the easy part of the movement, and exhale as you strain. Don't hold your breath.
Maintain good posture while using your hand weights. If you feel your posture deteriorating, pause your exercise routine and reposition your body.
When you're finished your hand weight routine, cool down. This will allow your muscles to gently return to a resting state.
