Maximize Weight Loss: Elliptical Machine Workout Techniques
The elliptical machine is a piece of fitness equipment with pedal platforms and arm poles that move back and forth to simulate running, skiing, stair-stepping and walking. Your elliptical machine workout can help you burn calories, but proper technique can improve your workout and increase your fat burning rate even more. By utilizing your body's full range of motion in this intense aerobic exercise, you can intensify weight loss.
Instructions
Swing your arms. Some elliptical machines allow you to hold onto handles while your legs perform most of the work. Choose an elliptical machines that have moving arm poles. Intensify your workout and burn extra calories with upper body movements.
Adjust your arm poles and foot platforms to allow you to stand up straighter and perform longer strides. Make sure your arms can fully extend and retract to allow the greatest amount of movement. Stunting your movements can make your elliptical workout less effective and burn less fat.
Increase the resistance setting on your elliptical machine. Begin with a resistance level of three or four for about five minutes. After five minutes, increase the intensity of your elliptical workout by raising the resistance level by one or two every five minutes for 25 minutes. Cool down your workout by dropping the resistance level to two for the last five minutes for a total of a 35-minute workout.
