Reduce your calorie intake to 1,050 to 1,200 calories a day. On this plan, you may lose up to 3 to 5 pounds a week. Fill your diet with fruits, vegetables, soy products, egg whites, fish and lean meat. Avoid eating too much starch, added sugars, animal fat and dairy products, according to WebMD.
Exercise at a moderate pace for at least one hour a day. Cardio burns the most calories, but it's also important to include strength training in your workout regimen a few hours a week. If you're unable to do cardio, try to walk at least 15,000 steps a day, recommends WebMD. Taking the stairs instead of the elevator and cleaning your house may also burn extra calories throughout the day.
Reject fad diets. Stay away from any diet plans that promote pills, laxatives, fasting or potions. Cutting calories below 1,050 a day isn't a good idea, because you need to have energy to exercise properly.
