Safely Freeze Yogurt at Home: Preserve Probiotics & Quality
Yogurt is milk in which live cultures have been introduced, generally L. bulgaricus and S. thermophilus. These cultures break down the milk's sugar (lactose) into lactic acid. This makes yogurt easier to digest for those folk who are lactose intolerant. Yogurt with "live" cultures has active bacteria (probiotics) that can be beneficial to overall health.Things You'll Need
- Yogurt
- Freezer proof-container
- Freezer
Instructions
Place the desired amount of yogurt in a freeze-proof container. Be sure it can withstand freezing temperatures.
Put the yogurt-containing container right in the freezer. The freezing process does not harm the bacteria within the yogurt--it puts them in a state of suspended animation.
Remove yogurt and eat. The bacteria will "wake up" as they come in contact with your body's warmth.
