Calculate Macronutrient Percentages: A Simple Guide to Fat Calories
For those counting calories and following the recommended daily allowances for calories, it's important to know what percentage of calories you're getting from the macronutrients: carbohydrates, protein and fat. All it takes is a nutrition label and simple math.Things You'll Need
- Calculator or pen/paper
- Nutrition label
Instructions
Find out how many total calories are in a product. This information is found on a nutrition label. But remember, these numbers apply to a single serving. Some packages have multiple servings, or you may serve yourself more than one serving.
Note the calories from fat. In order to find out the percentage of fat calories in a product, you must know how many calories are in a serving.
Do the math. Divide the calories from fat by the total calories and multiply by 100. For example, if your favorite snack has 200 calories, with 40 calories from fat, you divide 40 by 200 to get .2; multiply this by 100 to get 20. That snack has 20 percent calories from fat.
