Optifast Diet: Foods Allowed & What to Expect
The Optifast weight loss program is a comprehensive plan. Rather than just a diet, this is a medically supervised weight management plan that incorporates nutrition education, with a team of behaviorists, recreation therapists and weekly counseling. The Optifast program is suitable for people that have more than 50 lbs of weight to lose or that have more than a Body Mass Index of 30. It involves a calorie managed liquid diet, with the inclusion of specific foods as you move along in the program.-
Soup
-
Soup is a food that is allowed and eaten on the Optifast program. As the program is structured and customized for each person, the particular nutritionist that you are working with may have certain recommendations for you. However, the soups that you can eat with Optifast are tomato and chicken. Some variations of chicken soup that you can eat are chicken noodle soup and chicken and rice soup.
Nutrition Bars
-
Part of the Optifast program includes the option to eat perfectly balanced nutrition bars. The bars will be recommended to you and provided for you by the nutritionist or dietician that is provided with the program. The bars come in various flavors, such as berry, peanut butter and chocolate. They are eaten quite sparingly throughout the Optifast program.
Meal Replacement Shakes
-
Meal replacement shakes are another food item that you eat with Optifast. They offer the proper nutrients and composition in that they are a full meal on their own. There are specific ones that are for the Optifast plan only. The shakes and powders come in the standard flavors of strawberry, chocolate and vanilla.
