DIY Sugar Testing: Easily Check Sugar Content in Canned Drinks
According to the American Heart Association, we should be consuming only 5 to 9 teaspoons of sugar a day. Yet the average American consumes an average of 22 teaspoons of sugar every day, and most of that is in the form of canned drinks. All canned drinks display the sugar content, but it's empowering to find out the sugar content by yourself. It's easy to do in about 10 minutes.Things You'll Need
- Saucepan or skillet
- Stove
- Kitchen scale
- Canned drink
- Spoon
Instructions
Take a saucepan or skillet and weigh it on your kitchen scale. Write down its weight in ounces.
Pour the liquid of your chosen canned drink into the saucepan.
Boil the liquid until all the water evaporates and you're left with a gooey liquid. That's the sugar.
Once the pot has cooled down, weigh it again.
Take the original weight of the pan and subtract from the new weight. This figure will show you the amount of sugar in your canned drink.
