How to Get the Metal Taste Out of a Water Bottle
Toting around reusable water bottles is an affordable and eco-friendly way to keep drinking water handy. Bottles made of polycarbonate plastic are convenient, but some people worry about the potentially harmful effects of a chemical in the polycarbonate known as bisphenol A (BPA). Stainless steel water bottles are light and easy to carry, but many of them have a metallic taste that taints the water. Aluminum water bottles can also have this unpleasant taste. Fortunately, you can easily remove the bad taste with a few products that you probably already have in your cupboard.Things You'll Need
- Distilled vinegar
- Tbsp. baking soda (optional)
- Bottle brush or clean toothbrush (optional)
Instructions
Put a splash of distilled vinegar in your water bottle and fill it the rest of the way with water.
Replace the lid on and shake the bottle well. Let the vinegar mixture sit in it overnight.
Unscrew the lid on the bottle and dump out the liquid. Rinse it out well with plain water. The metallic taste should be gone.
Alternatively, you can clean your bottle with baking soda and water. Add about a tbsp. of baking soda and fill the rest of the bottle with water.
Put the lid on your bottle, shake it, and then let it sit for a few minutes. Use a toothbrush or bottle brush to scrub the inside of your bottle then rinse it thoroughly.
