Insulin is a peptide hormone produced by beta cells of pancreas. It is composed of 51 amino acids with a molecular weight of 5808 Da. It is composed of two polypeptide chains, chain A and chain B, which are linked by two disulfide bonds. Chain A has 21 amino acids and chain B has 30 amino acids.
