Optimizing Dental X-ray Contrast: Techniques for Darker Images
To make a dental x-ray darker, a few adjustments can be made:
Increase Exposure Time: During imaging, increase the exposure time of the X-ray machine. This allows more x-rays to pass through the teeth and tissue, creating a darker image.
Adjust Kilovoltage (kVp): By lowering the kilovoltage (kVp) setting on the X-ray machine, the x-rays can penetrate less, resulting in a darker image.
Change the film/digital sensor speed: Using a slower-speed film or digital sensor means it will be less sensitive to light. As a result, more X-rays are required to expose the film / sensor, causing the resulting image to become darker.
