Oral Hygiene After Tongue Piercing: A Comprehensive Guide
Brushing your teeth, an important step in starting and ending your day, helps protect against cavities and kills gingivitis. But just because you chose to get your tongue pierced doesn't mean you don't need to brush your teeth -- it merely changes the process slightly. Choosing not to brush your teeth after a tongue piercing may lead to infection.Things You'll Need
- Toothbrush
- Toothpaste
- Mouthwash
Instructions
Brush your teeth normally except for the first week after your piercing, when brushing your tongue may cause severe irritation. After about seven days, resume brushing your tongue.
Rinse your mouth with a mixture of 50 percent water and 50 percent alcohol-free mouthwash. Alcohol will cause your tongue to burn.
Tighten the ball on your tongue ring after brushing to prevent it from falling off and the stud from coming out of the hole. Failure to do so presents a choking hazard.
