Path to Orthodontics: Education & Training Requirements
To become an orthodontist, individuals must complete:
- 4 Years of College - Bachelor's degree, often in biology, science or a related field.
- 4 Years of Dental School - Doctor of Dental Surgery or the Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry degrees to become a fully licensed general dentist.
- 2 Years of Residency Training - In-depth academic and clinical training in the art and science of orthodontics. Graduates receive a master's degree or a certificate.
