  Brush your teeth with fluoride toothpaste using a soft bristle toothbrush twice a day. Do not apply too much pressure to your teeth or gums, as this may cause damage in the braces.   Floss your teeth using waxed floss. Do not use unwaxed floss as it will get caught in the brackets. Harmful bacteria gather around the braces; therefore, flossing is often the only way to remove it.
