Effective Denture Disinfection: A Guide to Oral Health
Dentures, like normal teeth, require daily cleaning and disinfection to keep your mouth healthy and reduce permanent staining. The disinfection process requires gentle cleaning with soap, followed by soaking in a denture cleansing product. Allowing the dentures to soak in solution gives the product time to eliminate germs and bacteria that hide between teeth and under the gums. Disinfect your dentures correctly to keep your mouth germ-free.Things You'll Need
- Soft-bristle toothbrush
- Liquid hand or dish-washing soap
- Glass
- Denture soaking solution
Instructions
Remove dentures from your mouth and rinse under cool running water in the sink.
Wet a soft-bristle toothbrush. Line the bristles of the toothbrush with a liquid hand soap or liquid dish-washing soap. Scrub the dentures gently with the soap and toothbrush. Glide the toothbrush over all surfaces, including close to the gum line to remove hidden food and plaque.
Rinse the soap from the dentures with cool water. Fill a glass with water and place the dentures there overnight, or whenever you choose not to wear them. Add a denture soaking solution to the water. Read the instructions for the soaking solution to know how much to add to the water. The soaking solution kills any germs and disinfects the dentures.
Take the dentures out of the glass and empty the water from the container when ready to wear your dentures. Rinse the dentures thoroughly with cool water to remove any soaking solution residue.
