Secure Your Dentures: A Guide to Effective Adhesives
If you are concerned about your dentures coming loose, particularly while you are eating or speaking in public, try using a denture adhesive. Denture adhesives hold your teeth securely in place and can give you peace of mind. Denture adhesives are sometimes called denture adherents. They are available over the counter at grocery and drug stores. They come in the form of creams, powders or strips that are applied to clean dentures before they are placed in the mouth.Things You'll Need
- Denture cleaning brush
- Denture cleanser
- Denture adhesive product
- Soft flannel or towel
Instructions
Rinse your dentures to remove any loose food particles.
Apply a small amount of denture cleanser to a moist denture cleaning brush or soft-bristled toothbrush.
Gently scrub every surface of your dentures with the brush to remove food particles and plaque.
Dry your dentures thoroughly using a piece of soft flannel or a hand towel. (Leave the dentures wet if using adhesive powder that requires moisture.)
Apply three or four dabs of denture cream, each one about the size of a pencil eraser, around the inside surface of your upper and lower dentures. Or, apply three or four denture strips or a thin layer of denture powder. Space the adhesive evenly, and dont apply it too close to the edges.
Rinse your mouth with water.
Place your dentures in your mouth, and press them firmly into place. Bite down for a few seconds to secure.
