A History of Amalgam Fillings: From Invention to Endorsement

In 1826, a French dentist, Taveau developed the first amalgam using tin and mercury. Later, in 1895, the American Dental Association endorsed copper amalgam as the material of choice for posterior (back) restorations of permanent teeth.
