Repairing Chipped Porcelain Veneers: Causes & Solutions
Those who have chipped, broken, misshaped, or discolored teeth may cover them with porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers are natural looking thin shells that are bonded to the front of the teeth. Veneers completely hide the original teeth, making teeth appear perfectly shaped and aligned. Porcelain veneers are supposed to last 5 to 10 years, but sometimes they can chip and need to be replaced. In this case, a dentist will have to remove the veneers and place new ones on your teeth.Things You'll Need
- Porcelain veneer
- Dental cement
Instructions
Call your dentist as soon as your realize your veneer has chipped. Schedule an appointment to get fitted for a new veneer, since the chipped porcelain veneer cannot be fixed.
Refrain from grinding or clenching your teeth, to prevent your porcelain veneers from further chipping. Your dentist will notch the chipped veneer and pop it off, to remove it.
Have impressions made of your tooth to fit a new porcelain veneer, and wait for the dental lab to construct a new one. Your dentist will need to shape the new veneer accordingly, and use dental cement to re-bond the new veneer to your tooth.
