Depo-Provera and Bleeding: Understanding Initial Changes
You may experience irregular bleeding or spotting during your first few months on Depo-Provera. This is because Depo-Provera suppresses ovulation, the process of releasing an egg from the ovary. This can cause changes to the lining of the uterus, which can lead to break through bleeding or spotting. Break through bleeding usually decreases or goes away completely after a few months of using the injection. However, some women may continue to experience irregular bleeding throughout the time they use Depo-Provera. If you are concerned about the bleeding, talk to your healthcare provider.
