Post-Op Burning Sensation After Dental Implants & Bone Grafting: What to Expect

Dental implants and bone grafts are both surgical procedures. It is normal to experience discomfort, pain, and inflammation that will feel like a burn after either of these procedures.

After a dental implant, you may experience:

* Pain at the implant site. This is usually mild and should go away within a few days.

* Swelling around the implant site. This may last for a few days to a week.

* Bruising around the implant site. This is also common and should go away within a few days.

* Bleeding from the implant site. This should be minimal and will usually stop within a day or two.

* Discomfort when eating or drinking. This is also normal and should go away within a few days.

* A burning sensation at the implant site. This is a less common side effect but can occur. It is usually caused by the implant coming into contact with the bone. The burning sensation should go away within a few days.

After a bone graft, you may experience:

* Pain at the graft site. This is usually mild and should go away within a few days.

* Swelling around the graft site. This may last for a few days to a week.

* Bruising around the graft site. This is also common and should go away within a few days.

* Bleeding from the graft site. This should be minimal and will usually stop within a day or two.

* Difficulty opening your mouth. This is a common side effect of a bone graft and should go away within a few days.

* A burning sensation at the graft site. This is a less common side effect but can occur. It is usually caused by the bone graft material coming into contact with the bone. The burning sensation should go away within a few days.
