Understanding Bruises: Causes, Color Changes & Healing
Color changes: As a bruise heals, it undergoes a series of color changes. Initially, it may appear red or purple due to leaking blood from the damaged capillaries. Over time, the bruise may turn blue, green, and then yellow as the body reabsorbs the hemoglobin.Swelling: Bruising can cause swelling in the affected area, especially if there is significant tissue damage. This is due to the accumulation of fluid and inflammatory cells at the site of the injury.
Tenderness or pain: Bruises are often tender or painful to the touch because of the inflammation and damage to the tissues.
Warmth: Bruises may feel warm to the touch due to the increased blood flow to the area.
Skin changes: In some cases, bruises may cause the skin to become thin, wrinkled, or scaly as the body repairs the damaged tissue.
