The sac can occur for a variety of reasons, one of the more common by sucking the lip membranes between the teeth. one of the ways to prevent these cyst, is to not notice when you are sucking the lip and attempt to break the habit. The cyst can also form around tongue and lip piercings. There is not a way to prevent the cyst from forming around the piercings.
The cyst often forms on the tongue, palate, inside the cheeks, mouth and around any piercings in the area.
The mucous cyst often can be left alone since it will rupture on its own. Opening the cyst with a sterile needle will help it go away quicker. But if the cyst continues to return in the same area, have a doctor look at it and remove it.
To prevent infection and damage to the tissue, the cyst should not be performed at home by yourself. This needs to be performed by your health care provider. Most oral surgeons and some dentists can easily remove the the cysts if they continue to be uncomfortable.
