What Is Coban Dressing?
Coban dressing is a self-adhesive wrap used to treat wounds and other injuries. The 3M company manufactures Coban dressing, with the average roll measuring 3 inches wide and 5 feet long.-
Function
-
Self-adhesive, Coban dressing sticks only to itself. It doesn̵7;t adhere to skin or other materials.
Features
-
Coban dressing is a laminate of non-woven materials and elastic fibers. The elastic runs lengthwise along the wrap to provide even greater elasticity.
Uses
-
People use Coban dressing to hold bandages in place, protect wound sites, immobilize injuries, secure splints and other supportive equipment, and provide compression to reduce swelling or control bleeding.
Benefits
-
No adhesives are present to irritate skin. Since it sticks only to itself, Coban dressing won̵7;t pull hair or skin during removal.
Considerations
-
Users may apply Coban dressing directly over wounds that don̵7;t feature significant drainage. Otherwise, gauze may be placed between the wound and the dressing.
