Verrucas vs. Warts: Understanding the Difference & Transmission
Verrucas and warts are both caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), but they are not the same. Verrucas are located on the soles of the feet, while warts can occur anywhere on the body. Verrucas are also more likely to be painful than warts.
You cannot get verrucas from warts, or vice versa, because the virus that causes each is specific to that location. However, you can get verrucas from other verrucas, and warts from other warts.
The HPV that causes verrucas and warts is spread through direct contact with the infected skin. This can happen when you touch someone who has warts or verrucas, or when you share towels, shoes, or other objects that have been in contact with infected skin.
Verrucas and warts are usually harmless and will go away on their own in time. However, if they are painful or unsightly, there are a number of treatments that can be used to remove them.
