Zovirax for Warts: Effectiveness & Usage Guide

The human papillomavirus, or HPV, causes most warts. HPV can cause warts to appear anywhere on a person's body. Even if the warts are not painful, they can be quite embarrassing. While no medication can completely eradicate the warts, you can use certain drugs, like Zovirax, to reduce the severity, and duration, of the warts. Zovirax is mainly used to treat herpes, but its active ingredient is acyclovir, a drug that can combat the virus that causes warts.

  Wash your hands with antibacterial soap and warm water. Dry them off.

  Put on a pair of plastic gloves. The human papillomavirus is very contagious. Wearing gloves will protect you from spreading the virus to other parts of your body.

  Apply a one-half inch ribbon of the Zovirax cream for every 4 square inches of the treatment area and the surrounding skin.

  Remove the gloves and wash your hands again.

  Repeat the above steps every three hours over a seven-day period, or until your doctor tells you to stop. Also, make sure you do not use the cream more than six times in one 24-hour period.
