Groin Odor in Teenagers: Causes, Circumcision & Hygiene
It is common for the groin area to have a slight smell, especially after physical activity or sweating. This is usually due to bacteria breaking down sweat and other bodily fluids. Circumcision does not cause the groin area to smell like urine. Shaving down there can help reduce the smell by removing hair that traps sweat and bacteria, but it is not necessary to shave in order to prevent the smell.
There are a few things you can do to help reduce the smell of your groin area:
- Wash the area regularly with soap and water, especially after physical activity.
- Wear loose-fitting underwear made of natural fibers like cotton.
- Change your underwear frequently.
- Avoid using harsh soaps or body washes that can irritate the skin.
- If you have excessive sweating, you can try using an antibacterial soap or deodorant.
If you are concerned about the smell of your groin area, talk to your doctor or a trusted adult for advice.
