Hemorrhagic Cystitis Adult Treatment
Hemorrhagic cystitis is a medical condition marked by inflammation of the bladder that results in bleeding. This uncomfortable condition requires treatment as soon as possible.-
Indications
-
Common signs of hemorrhagic cystitis include frequent, painful and bloody urination accompanied by abdominal pressure and a low-grade fever.
Causes
-
The most common cause of hemorrhagic cystitis is a weakening of your immune system due to chemotherapy or radiation treatments for cancer. Extended use of a catheter, bacteria and certain medications occasionally result in hemorrhagic cystitis.
Diagnosis
-
Before deciding on a course of treatment, doctors run a battery of tests, including urine screening and the insertion of a camera into your urinary tract or cytoscopy.
Treatment
-
Depending on the cause of your bladder inflammation, possible treatments include postponement or cessation of cancer treatment, a change in medication or the prescription of an antibiotic. When treatment is not possible, a common alternative is use of a pain relieving drug called Pyridium until the condition clears on its own.
Solution
-
While recovering, use heating pads and soak in a warm sitz bath for 15 to 20 minutes to ease symptoms. Stay hydrated and avoid caffeine and citrus juices, as these can further irritate your bladder.
