Early Childhood Hypothyroidism: Causes and Consequences
Hypothyroidism
Hypothyroidism is a condition in which the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone. Primary hypothyroidism in early childhood is caused by agenesis or hypoplasia of the thyroid gland while central hypothyroidism is less common. It is due to a genetic disturbance leading to deficiency in thyroid-releasing factor.
