Hypothyroidism: Understanding Iodine Deficiency & Thyroid Disorders
The disease of the endocrine system that results from lack of iodine is _Hypothyroidism_.
Hypothyroidism occurs when the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone.
Iodine is required for the thyroid to produce normal levels of thyroxine, and if intake of iodine from food and other dietary sources is too low, it can eventually result in insufficient amounts of thyroid hormone being produced for normal hormonal balances to be maintained in the body.
