Wrist Sprain Recovery: How to Wrap and Support a Sprained Wrist
Activities ranging from playing sports to typing too much on the computer can cause a wrist sprain. A splint or a wrap should be used to temporarily immobilize the sprain and compress the swelling. You can wrap a sprained wrist by first obtaining the correct type of bandage.Things You'll Need
- Elastic bandage wrap
- Locking tabs
Instructions
Start at the top of the wrist and make two turns around the wrist with the bandage.
Pull the bandage across the palm and between the thumb and index finger.
Wrap the elastic bandage around the wrist again. Complete the wrap of the hand by pulling the bandage across the palm and between the thumb and index finger a second time.
Wrap the excess bandage around the wrist and up the arm. Make sure to overlap at least ½ to ¾ of the bandage width each turn around the arm.
Secure the bandage using the locking tabs. The tabs have small teeth that puncture the bandage and prevent it from coming apart.
