Understanding Chronic Muscle Strains: Causes and Development
One example of an injury that can become chronic is a muscle strain. A muscle strain occurs when a muscle is stretched or torn beyond its normal range of motion. This can happen during strenuous exercise, a sudden movement, or a traumatic event. When a muscle is strained, the damage can include microscopic tears in the muscle fibers, as well as damage to the surrounding connective tissue.
Muscle strains can cause a variety of symptoms, including pain, swelling, bruising, and limited range of motion. In some cases, a muscle strain can also lead to muscle weakness and cramping. Muscle strains that are not properly treated can sometimes lead to chronic problems, such as chronic pain, muscle weakness, and recurrent injuries.
Examples: Hamstring and shin splinting injuries
