Replacing the Data Card in Your CPAP Machine: A Simple Guide
CPAP machine data cards are easy to remove and replace. Located at the rear of CPAP (Continuous Positive Air Pressure) machines, CPAP smart data card slots resemble SD card slots inside the base of digital cameras and on the side of newer laptop computers. Smart data cards store information from the CPAP machine that doctors can read to monitor and treat the patient. If you need to send your data card to your doctor, you can quickly remove it and insert a replacement until you receive your original card back.Things You'll Need
- CPAP machine
- Two smart data cards designed to work with your make and model of CPAP machine
Instructions
Locate the smart card data slot on the back of your CPAP machine, which is usually opposite the tube running to the nasal mask portion of the machine. Look for a slot measuring about one to two inches wide and 1/4-inch tall.
Push gently on the small card inserted in the slot to cause it to pop out from the slot slightly. Pull the data card out of the slot and examine it so that you can buy the same kind (unless you already have a replacement data card).
Insert an unused, identical data card into the empty slot on the back of your CPAP machine. Send or give the filled data card to your physician so that he can monitor the pressure levels of your CPAP machine and make adjustments as needed. Ask your physician to remove the stored data from the card once he is finished analyzing it and to return the card to you. Keep the card in a safe place until your doctor is ready for you to repeat this process, sending the existing data card to him and replacing it with the stored, empty data card. Make sure there is always a data card in the slot on the back of your CPAP machine so that you have a continuous stream of information about how you are using the machine.
