Side Sleeping & Congestion: Why One Side Feels Stuffed Up
When you lie down on one side, the pressure on your sinuses changes, which can cause them to become congested. This is because the blood vessels in your nose are more likely to become swollen when you are lying down, which can block the sinuses and make it difficult to breathe.
Additionally, when you lie on one side, the mucus in your sinuses can drain down into your throat, which can also cause congestion. This is why you may sometimes wake up with a sore throat or a hoarse voice if you have been sleeping on one side.
To avoid congestion, try to sleep with your head elevated slightly. You can also use a saline nasal spray to help clear your sinuses before you go to bed. If your congestion is severe, you may need to see a doctor for treatment.
