How to Help Heat Rash
Heat rash is a skin condition that occurs from hot and humid conditions. Also known as miliaria and prickly heat, heat rash most commonly affects babies, but it can also bother adults as well. The rash, which appears as itchy or prickly lumps, occurs when your sweat ducts get blocked and sweat gets trapped under the skin. Although heat rash will likely clear up on its own, you can help ease the symptoms with some basic self care.Things You'll Need
- Loose, light clothes
- Calamine lotion
Instructions
Reduce discomfort by limiting sweating. Stay indoors during a hot day in an air-conditioned environment. Use a fan if you do not have access to air conditioning. Cut down on physical activity that will make you sweat.
Wear light, loose-fitting clothing. Wear fabrics that breathe such as cotton and linen and avoid heavy clothes made of material such as wool.
Apply calamine lotion on the rash to reduce itching.
Visit your doctor if your heat rash is extreme. He will likely prescribe a steroid cream to help clear up the rash.
