How to Remove a Splinter From a Childs Foot
Splinters are foreign objects that get pushed into the skin. A splinter can come from a piece of wood, metal, glass or even plastic. People who walk around barefoot may be at risk of getting a splinter. If your child gets a splinter in his foot, don't worry. You can safely remove the splinter at home.
Instructions
Wash your hands with soap and water. You want to have clean hands, free of dirt or bacteria.
Remove the splinter with a pair of tweezers. Place the tweezers on the protruding splinter and gently pull.
Break the skin over an embedded splinter. If there is no part of the splinter protruding to grip with the tweezers, take a needle and sterilize it with rubbing alcohol. Clean the foot. Dab rubbing alcohol on the splinter with a cotton pad or use soap and water. Pierce the skin with the needle. Push against the splinter with the needle to raise it up. Use the tweezers to pull the splinter out of the foot.
Soak the foot. This may work for deeply embedded splinters that can't be removed with a needle. Pour warm water into a basin and add 1 tbsp. of baking soda. Place your child's foot in the solution and let it soak for 10 minutes. Do this twice a day. According to WebMD, this may slowly push the splinter to the surface of the skin after a couple days.
