There are five layers of skin on your fingertips:
Epidermis This is the outermost layer and is made up of keratinized cells that help to protect the skin from damage.
Dermis This layer is made up of connective tissue and contains blood vessels, nerves, and sweat glands.
Hypodermis This is the innermost layer and is made up of fat cells that help to insulate the body.
Nail matrix This is the part of the fingernail that produces the nail plate.
Nail plate This is the hard outer covering of the fingernail.
