Understanding Vaginal Lumps: Causes, Symptoms & When to See a Doctor
Vaginal lumps can be an embarrassing problem causing pain and itching. Vaginal lumps may develop for a number of reasons. Consult your doctor to determine the cause of the problem.-
Genital Warts
-
Genital warts are induced by the human papillomavirus and are transferred via sexual contact with a person carrying the virus. The warts do not cause any pain and will go away over time.
Genital Herpes
-
Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted disease causing pain and itching. As of 2010, there is no cure. However, you can soothe pain or itching by applying creams.
Ingrown Hairs
-
Ingrown hair occurs when the hair curls back and grows sideways and pushes through the skin. This can cause vaginal lumps that are usually visible a few days after shaving.
Bartholin's Gland
-
If the lump is located around the vaginal opening it may be Bartholin's gland. These glands lubricate the vagina. If there is a blockage in the gland a cyst can develop. This will only become a problem if the cyst gets infected.
