Tibia:- Medially located
- articulates with the femur at the knee joint
- articulates with the talus at the ankle joint
- weight-bearing bone of the leg
Fibula:
- Laterally located
- articulates with the tibia at the proximal and distal ends
- provides attachment for muscles
- not weight-bearing
Interosseous membrane:
- connects the tibia and fibula
- reinforces the leg and prevents it from buckling
