Groin Pain and STDs: Understanding Lymphogranuloma Venereum (LGV)
Lymphogranuloma Venereum (LGV)
LGV is a sexually transmitted infection caused by certain strains of the bacteria _Chlamydia trachomatis_. LGV is most common in tropical and subtropical regions, but it can also be found in other parts of the world.
Symptoms of LGV can include:
* Fever
* Chills
* Headache
* Muscle aches
* Fatigue
* Swollen lymph nodes in the groin area
* Pain in the groin area
* Skin rashes
* Ulcers on the genitals or rectum
If you think you might have LGV, see your healthcare provider right away. Early diagnosis and treatment are important to prevent serious complications, such as infertility and scarring of the genitals or rectum.
LGV is treated with antibiotics. The type of antibiotic and the length of treatment will depend on the severity of your infection.
To prevent LGV:
* Use condoms every time you have sex.
* Get tested for STDs regularly, especially if you have multiple sexual partners.
* Avoid sex with anyone who has symptoms of an STD.
