Emphysema & Alveoli: Understanding Air Sac Damage
The air sacs that merge in emphysema are called alveoli. Alveoli are small, sac-like structures in the lungs that allow for the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide between the air and the bloodstream. In emphysema, the walls of the alveoli are damaged and destroyed, resulting in the formation of larger, less effective air sacs. This can lead to difficulty breathing and other respiratory problems.Respiratory Disorders - Related Articles
