Alveoli and Gas Exchange: How Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide Transfer Occur
Gas exchange occurs.
The alveoli are tiny air sacs where oxygen from the air we breathe diffuses into the bloodstream, while carbon dioxide moves from the bloodstream into the alveoli to be exhaled. This process of gas exchange is what allows us to get the oxygen we need to survive and to remove the waste product carbon dioxide from our bodies.
