Marvelon Birth Control: Dosage, Use & Important Information

A month's supply of Marvelon birth control pills includes 21 pills containing desogestrel/ethinylestradiol, medicine used for contraception. For maximum effectiveness, take all pills in order, do not skip any doses and avoid unprotected sexual activity for the first month of the prescription. This allows time for your menstrual cycle to stabilize and will minimize the risk of an accidental pregnancy. Alert your doctor, if you experience any serious side-effects such as bleeding, severe cramps or other sudden health issues.

  Read the directions thoroughly. Your doctor will go over them with you when they first write the prescription.

  Take the first Marvelon pill on the first day of your next period. Continue taking one pill each day for 21 days. Set a time to take the tablet each day to establish a habit, minimizing the chances of accidentally skipping a dose.

  Take a seven day break from the prescription, before starting the next course. Refill your prescription at least a few days prior to when your next cycle starts, to ensure the course of Marvelon is not interrupted.
