Nasal Spray Administration: A Step-by-Step Guide for Effective Use
Nasal sprays administer medicine directly into the nose or through the blood stream. Nostrils are rich with blood vessels, allowing the easy absorption of medicine through the vessels. Carefully administering nose sprays is important to ensure the medicine works properly.
Instructions
Blow your nose into a clean tissue. Wash your hand thoroughly to remove any germs.
Shake the bottle with the cap still in place for 2 to 5 seconds. Remove the cap of the nasal spray.
Move your head forward so that you can see the floor but are not looking directly at the floor.
Press against your right nostril with your finger; insert the tip of the nasal spray so that it is just past the nose opening.
Breath in through your left nostril slowly, while still breathing in depress the button to release the nasal spray.
Breathe out through your mouth and remove the nasal spray tip from your nose.
Look toward the ceiling for 2 to 5 seconds to allow the medicine to flow into the back of your nose.
Repeat for a second dose in the same nostril or for a dose in the right nostril.
