Coban Wraps: Uses, Benefits & Proper Application | 3M
Coban wraps are an elastic medical dressing manufactured by the company 3M. The hypoallergenic, self-adherent properties make Coban wraps resourceful in many types of medical situations.-
Sizes
-
Coban wraps are made of latex-free elastic materials and come in nine different sizes designed for use on different areas of the body.
Comfort
-
The lightweight and porous material provides better ventilation than traditional dressings.
Application
-
Never apply Coban wrap directly from the roll. Ideally, it should be applied 50 percent stretched, by stretching the dressing fully and retracting back to 50 percent. Physicians may apply a higher-percentage stretch to accommodate specific medical conditions.
Securing
-
Coban wrap can be used to secure IVs, catheters and other devices in place.
Compression
-
Coban wrap can be applied over top of other dressings and can be applied at a higher stretch percentage to place pressure on bleeding wounds or pressure points.
Immobilization
-
Coban wrap is used for securing braces, splints, and other immobilizers to patients.
