Understanding Obesity: BMI and Healthy Weight Ranges
Obesity is a condition in which a person has excessive body fat. Body mass index (BMI) is a measure of body fat based on height and weight. A BMI of 30 or greater is considered obese.
BMI is calculated by dividing weight in kilograms by height in meters squared. For example, a person who is 1.8 meters tall and weighs 80 kilograms has a BMI of 30.
Obesity can increase the risk of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and other health problems. Losing weight can help to improve overall health and reduce the risk of these diseases.
