How to Withdraw From Phentermine
Phentermine is a stimulant and appetite suppressant prescribed to obese people for weight loss purposes. Patients can purchase the drug under several brand names, including Adipex-P, Obenix and Zantryl. It also is available in generic form. Phentermine is intended as a short-term component of a long-range program that includes diet and exercise, and doctors might prescribe it to "jump-start" the program. This medication is physically and psychologically addicting, so it's important to stop usage gradually.
Instructions
Talk to your doctor about a schedule to discontinue using phentermine gradually. Do not attempt to stop taking phentermine without consulting your doctor first.
Taper off from phentermine. Use less and less of the medication, according to your doctor's instructions. Manufacturers make this drug in various dosages in both capsule and tablet form. If necessary, you can open a capsule and sprinkle half the medication on a small amount of soft food, or cut a tablet in half with a pill cutting device.
Make sure you have enough phentermine so you do not run out during the tapering-off phase.
Talk to your doctor about handling withdrawal symptoms, although they are unlikely when you discontinue phentermine properly. Withdrawal symptoms can include depression, irritability, tremors, dizziness, drowsiness and fatigue.
