Understanding Epilepsy Seizures: Types and Symptoms
1. Generalized tonic-clonic seizures (GTCS). These are the most common type of seizure associated with epilepsy. GTCS are characterized by a sudden loss of consciousness, stiffening of the body, and jerking movements of the arms and legs.
2. Absence seizures. These are brief seizures that are characterized by a temporary loss of consciousness. Absence seizures typically last for a few seconds and can occur multiple times a day.
