Heat vs. Ice for Pulled Muscles: What's the Best Treatment?
The recommended treatment depends on the stage of injury and may differ between heat and ice.
Initial 2-3 Days "Inflammation Stage": During the initial stage, it's usually recommended to apply ice and compression. Ice helps reduce inflammation, swelling and pain. Do this for about 10-15 minutes, several times a day.
3-5 Days Later "Healing and Repair": After the initial stage, and as the inflammation diminishes, applying heat can be more beneficial. Heat can improve circulation, reduce muscle spasms and promote healing. Use heat for 15-20 minutes, several times a day.
It's important to note that everyone may respond differently to heat or cold therapies. If symptoms worsen or don't improve, consult a healthcare professional for personalized advice.
