Soleus Muscle: Location, Function & Relationship to Gastrocnemius
The soleus muscle is located directly beneath the gastrocnemius muscle in the back of the lower leg. Both the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles are involved in plantar flexion, which is the downward movement of the foot at the ankle joint.
